Lacrosse falls to No. 15 Seton Hill
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven lacrosse team gave No. 15 Seton Hill all they could handle through three quarters, but the Griffins closed out a 12-6 victory in the fourth quarter of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division showdown at Charlotte Smith Field on Wednesday afternoon.
With the result, Lock Haven moves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC West. Seton Hill improves to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Gretchen King recorded a game-high 16 saves, just one stop short of her season high.
Makayla Kelly recorded a hat-trick and dished out an assist for a total of four points.
Gabby Gunnip scored twice and picked up a pair of ground balls, while Hadley Munn scored and Kaitlyn Collins dished out two assists.
On defense, three different Bald Eagles caused a turnover and scooped up a ground ball.
In the first period, Seton Hill built a 3-2 lead, but King kept the Bald Eagles in striking distance as she made five saves to prevent the Griffins from extending their advantage further.
In the second, Seton Hill scored back-to-back goals to jump ahead 5-2, however, The Haven countered with two straight goals to trim its deficit to 5-4 heading into the break.
Gunnip led the Bald Eagles’ offensive charge in the first half as she scored twice, while Collins added a pair of assists.
The Griffins scored three unanswered goals to open the third quarter, before Kelly found the back of the net to keep The Haven within three.
However, Seton Hill closed out the victory with four insurance goals in the fourth quarter.
