Montgomery hits 10 threes in 67-45 win over Bucktail

FARWELL-Bucktail’s Gavin Pick sank a three-point basket on the Bucks’ first trip down the floor on Friday night. It was the last long-range bucket Pick and his team connected on until a Marvin Robinson three with just over five minutes remaining in the contest against visiting Montgomery. By that point in the contest, the Red Raiders already had the game within their control thanks in part to 10 three-point baskets of their own. Montgomery managed to combat a career night from Pick and escape Farwell with a 67-45 win.
The Bucks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead following the Pick bucket from downtown. Their lead once again grew to three points following a pair of baskets from Teagan Stone.
Gavin Pick continued to work hard. Pick connected on a pair of free throws and then had a huge blocked shot as time expired in the first frame. Unfortunately for Pick, his team trailed 16-12.
Pick, who netted a career-high 29 points on the night just kept working for head coach Travis Fantaskey’s Bucktail squad. He completed a three-point play, which was followed by another basket with under ten seconds until halftime to keep the Cherry & White within striking distance and trailing 30-24.
The Red Raiders opened the third quarter on a 12-5 run, forcing Bucktail to burn a timeout. Montgomery remained hot from the outside and also began beating the Bucks back to get good and easy transition points. Montgomery’s 25-11 advantage now had the visitors up 55-36.
Bucktail’s second unit then took the floor with just over five minutes remaining and squared up with the Montgomery starters. The Red Raiders posted a 12-9 advantage to set the final.
Pick’s 29 points and 10 rebounds led Bucktail. Teagan Stone knocked in 7 points. Corbin Pentz scored four points, with Marvin Robinson scoring 3 points. Otis Emerick added 2 points in the loss.
The Bucks (1-3, 0-2) are set to travel to District 6 powers West Branch on Monday before hosting District 9 foes Northern Potter on Wednesday.
