Downtown Rotary Offers Student Awards

LOCK HAVEN, PA  — The Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven has increased the amounts of its three scholarships for 2024 Central Mountain High School graduating seniors. Each award is in memory of a well-known local Rotarian.

•The Eleanor E.J. Kodish Memorial Scholarship goes to a graduating senior headed for a career in education and attending Commonwealth University — Mansfield. If no senior meets that criteria, C.U. — Lock Haven will be substituted for Mansfield. If there is still no senior who meets the criteria, Penn State University will be substituted.

•The Dr. Betty Baird Schantz Memorial Scholarship is for an active member of Interact (the high school level of Rotary).

The club will contribute $2,000 for each of these two scholarships.

•The Roberta M. Way Memorial Scholarship is for a college-bound graduating senior who demonstrates academics, commitment, and community service and is pursuing a career in education. The 2024 award is $1,500, with her family giving two-thirds of the amount and the rest coming from the former Rotary Club of Mill Hall Sunrise’s treasury.

Donations are welcome to help honor the legacies of these women. Checks may be made out to Downtown Lock Haven Rotary and mailed to P.O. Box 634, Lock Haven PA 17745.
