Clinton County Pays Tribute to WWII Hero with Unveiling of John F Curcio Memorial Bridge

NORTH BEND-The last few generations have grown up knowing John Curcio personally and being aware of what the Fly Boy during WWII while serving in the 8th Army Air Force, 458th Bomber Group. Although future generations won’t be as fortunate as knowing him, they will see his name memorialized when they go over the John F Curcio Bridge in North Bend.

State Representative Stephanie Borowicz told the crowd of about 100 for the ceremony that she had told John of her plans while he was still alive. John told her that he was “very flattered” and even suggested the bridge that now stands as his Memorial.

John was born in Brooklyn New York on May 23 1925 and married Anna Cowfer as the couple settle in Renovo.

Following his 35 combat missions, that were so dangerous that a museum has a piece of flack that went through one his planes and missed his chin by inches, before covering him fuel, John and Annie spent their entire lives in Renovo and North Bend.

He has worked for the PA Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail from 1947-1984 before retiring. He was a member of the VFW, 40/8, Elks and the American Legion, as well as serving on the Renovo Council. His generosity of gifts to everyone that he came into contact with was a common theme as speakers, family and friends gathered for the Bridge Unveiling.

Guest speakers included Rep. Borowicz, Senator Chris Dush, General Maureen Weigl, Clinton County Commissioner Jim Russo and veteran and nephew Roy Cowfer.
