Major shuts down Dragons as Wildcats win, 1-0

MILL HALL, PA – Aidan Major pitched a nifty 6.1 innings allowing no runs and just one hit while striking out 10 and issuing 4 bases on ball as Central Mountain edged Lewisburg, 1-0 on Wednesday.

After fellow West Virginia recruit Josh Heath dropped in a fly ball base hit to short center to start the game, the West Virginia-bound Major allowed just two more fly balls to the outfield. He also knocked in the only run of the game with a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield, plating Peyton Johnson, who led off the bottom of the fifth with a booming triple to right center field.

Central Mountain threatened often but stranded runners in scoring position in the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings.

Ashton Probst came in to pitch in the 7th after Major had reached his allowable pitch count. He got the final two outs with infield pop-ups.

The hard-luck losing pitcher was Owen Arndt, giving up just that one run and allowing seven hits.

Peyton Johnson was 2-for-3 with a triple; Cru Stover wan 2-for-3 with a double. Major, Cy Probst and Landyn Carson had the other three hits for the Wildcats, now 2-3. The Green Dragons are also 2-3 after the loss.

Coach Mike Kramer was more than pleased with the pitching and defense. The team overall hit better than in recent outings, but until Major’s sacrifice fly, they stranded seven runners.

Central Mountain will visit Danville (3-2) Friday and return to Mill Hall Community Park next Monday, April 19, to play Jersey Shore (2-1).
