Wawa Final Development Plans Filed, Work to Begin Soon
By Christopher Miller
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Bald Eagle Township Supervisor Steve Tasselli and Secretary/Treasurer Marissa Morgan met briefly Friday morning with a paralegal from the McCormick Law Firm of Williamsport to sign the Final Land Development Plans for the Wawa building project.
The 7.79 acre site, recently purchased by Provco Pinegood Mill Hall, LLC of Villanova for $900,000, has been involved in building several other Wawa store locations throughout the commonwealth. The Record reached out to them for detailed information and a timeline of the build.
In the meantime, the former Creek Side Restaurant and Aungst Restaurant building has since been demolished, leaving a “rubble field” of large stone left behind for the construction of the new store. Builders will start by building the site up to meet current Route-150 road grade. A formal Wawa “welcoming ceremony” last month in State College provided details that this store location should be up and running by Fall 2026.
Approximately 10 other Wawa locations are expected to open throughout the surrounding counties in the next few years, with a few slated for the State College, Penn’s Valley and Bellefonte areas.
Just last week, Wawa celebrated the opening of their first Sunbury location.
Word first arrived in December 2023 that plans for a Wawa at the former Aungst and Creek Side Restaurant location along Eagle Valley Road were announced.
Plans were on hold pending PennDOT approval and other permitting related matters, along with concerns about being in the floodplain of nearby Fishing Creek.
This is not the first project planned for Wawa, Inc. in central Pennsylvania. In the past nine months, other locations in Williamsport and Lewisburg have since opened.
Plans for the Mill Hall location show a building footprint of about 6,000 square feet, 71 parking spaces, 8 gas islands with the capacity for 16 total pumps, and parking around the perimeter of the building.
Two entrances are being planned, one to use the light as an entrance and exit at route 64 and Nittany Valley Drive, and the other further down Eagle Valley Road allowing southbound drivers to enter the Wawa, and allowing people exiting by turning right only onto Eagle Valley Road. Left-hand turns will be allowed at the traffic light.
Wawa, Inc., a primarily southeastern PA based “all-day, everyday convenience store” selling fuel, coffee, hoagies, and food.
Wawa is a chain of convenience stores and gas stations, primarily located on the East Coast, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic region. It’s known for fresh food offerings, including its famous Built-to-Order hoagies and other items like coffee, beverages, breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, as well as fresh baked goods.
The name “Wawa” comes from the town of Wawa, Pennsylvania, which in turn is derived from the Ojibwe word for snow goose.
