Wildcats Edge Central Columbia in Nail-Biting 3–2 Finish

MILL HALL-The Central Mountain girls tennis team pulled out a nail-biter Monday afternoon, rallying for a 3-2 win over Central Columbia.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead when defending state champion Addison Lindsay rolled to a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. From there, however, Central Columbia looked poised to take control. The Blue Jays captured the opening sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles as well as both doubles matches, then secured the second set in both doubles to move ahead 2-1 in the team score.

The match swung when freshmen sisters Lucy and Lane Walker fought back in their singles contests. Lucy was ahead 5-4 and serving for the match in the third set when her opponent, Sydney Barry, was forced to retire, knotting the score at 2-2. That left everything riding on Lane’s showdown at No. 3 singles. After splitting the first two sets, the match went to a tiebreaker. The back-and-forth battle reached 8-8 before Lane closed out the final two points, clinching the team victory.
