BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – 2017 Central Mountain High School graduate and Ronald and Anna Mapstone Award winner, Sierra Bloom came home for a visit recently. While home, Sierra visited with her Keystone Central Foundation mentor, Karen Probst. Miss Bloom attends Mansfield University, studying social work.

The Ronald and Anna Mapstone Award was created by Lock Haven native, Jeff Mapstone to honor his parents, their hard work, and their emphasis on education. The recipient of the annual award, administered by the Keystone Central Foundation, gives the student the support they need to be successful in the transition from high school to college.

Currently, Sierra maintains a 3.74 GPA, works at Weis 20 hours per week, and attends school full-time. Mrs.Probst keeps in contact with Bloom on a bi-weekly and sometimes more often basis to check in and see how things are going, make sure she doesn’t need anything, and give her an added boost when college life gets stressful. “I’m lucky to have such a great support group” said Sierra. “Mrs. Probst is like my second mom” she continued.

With the Mapstone Award, Sierra has been able to purchase a new computer and supplies she needs to maintain her grades and independence while away from home. The Keystone Central Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that in addition to providing students from Central Mountain and Bucktail High Schools with over $45,000 annually in senior awards, also supports students and faculty through Teacher Mini-Grants and Special Project Funding opportunities.
