Nittany Lions Set for Night Games Next Two Weeks

psu-footballUNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State’s first visit to Iowa since 2012 will kick at 7:30 p.m. and air on ABC. The Nittany Lions and Hawkeyes square off in Kinnick Stadium for the 14th time on Sept. 23.

Penn State announced the kickoff time on Monday. It will be the second straight Saturday night appearance for the 2-0 Nittany Lions. The fifth-ranked Lions host Georgia State for the first time Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network as the finale of a three-game non-conference home stand to open the season.

Georgia State will come to Penn State with a 0-1 mark, having lost its opener to Tennessee State by a 17-10 score. This is the eighth year for football at the Atlanta-based school of 50,000.

Penn State last Saturday avenged a 2016 loss to Pitt, downing the Panthers (1-1) by a 33-14 score before nearly 110,000 fans at Beaver Stadium.

Penn State is 14-12 all-time against Iowa, including an 8-5 record in Iowa City. Last season, the Nittany Lions defeated the Hawkeyes, 41-14, in front of a raucous crowd of 106,194 in Beaver Stadium. Penn State totaled 599 yards of offense, led by Saquon Barkley’s 211 all-purpose yards (167 rushing, 44 receiving). Quarterbacks Tommy Stevens (70) and Trace McSorley (40) had 110 rushing yards to go along with McSorley’s 240 passing yards. The Penn State defense was stellar, holding the Hawkeyes to just 30 rushing yards, the fewest given up by PSU to a Big Ten team since 2012. Jason Cabinda paced the defensive effort with nine tackles.

Every Penn State football game has been televised the past 12 seasons and 289 of the last 291 contests overall have been on TV.
