LOCK HAVEN – An almost forgotten deceased Army veteran from “the greatest generation” was lovingly remembered at a special ceremony today in the Susque-View Atrium.

Sgt. Fred Russell Kramer lost his life in combat in St. Lo, France in August of 1944. He left behind a widow, the former Kathryn Berry, and two children.

The Kramer family had not received any of the medals he earned and deserved until today as military and law enforcement personnel gathered to recognize the late Fred Kramer, his widow Kathryn Berry Kramer, a daughter Barbara Confer and a nephew Ross Kramer.

Sgt. Kramer was born in Salona in 1915 and after joining the Army and marriage he spent a year in Europe until he made the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

The ceremony included the presentation of numerous medals, including the Purple Heart, to Mrs. Kramer, now 93 years old and a guest at Susque-View. They were presented by Major Gaylon Klobe (ret) and Chief Warrant Officer Milton Weaver (ret). American flags were presented to Kramer family members by three state policemen: Sgt. Michael Triponey, Master Trooper Kevin A. Miller and Cpl. Mitch McMunn.

Appropriate songs were provided by Michelle Bates from Penn State University and retired local educator Elaine Barth.
