LHU: Volleyball Falls to Millersville in Conference Clash

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven volleyball team (1-19, 1-8 PSAC East) fell in a home contest with Millersville University (14-10, 4-5 PSAC East), 3-1 (25-13, 25-15, 22-25 & 25-20), on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match in Thomas Fieldhouse.

On the Bald Eagles “Dig Pink Game,” the Marauders took control early in the opening set and pulled away for a 25-13 win. Millersville rode that momentum in the second set and notched a 25-15 win.

Lock Haven responded in an entertaining back and forth third set, and a kill from Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) sealed the 25-22 win to send the match to the decisive fourth set.

Millersville jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead early in the fourth set, but Lock Haven matched the run and tied the game up at 9-9. Neither side was able to gain a sizable advantage over the final points, but the Marauders came away with the 25-20 win late.

Gaston was strong for Lock Haven posting team-highs in both assists with 31 and digs with 17. She also added four kills and a service ace.

Maggie Rafferty (Palmdale, Calif./Highland) led The Haven attack with 10 kills.

In a team-defensive effort, Madison Eckley (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle) delivered 14 digs, Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) chipped in 13 and Mandy Altsman (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) contributed 12 digs of her own.

Kelly and Alyssa Daley (Everett, Pa./Everett) both added eight kills, but a 47-41 advantage in kills for the Marauders helped the visitors grab the 3-1 win.
