Clarence H. “Butch” Spotts, 76, of Renovo died peacefully on March 11, 2022, at Bucktail Medical Center after an extended period of declining health.

Butch was born on January 14, 1946, in Renovo and was the son of the late George Spotts and Virginia (Spotts) Brigham.

Butch grew up in Renovo and was a 1964 graduate of Bucktail High School. He served his country with the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Butch did machine repair for various plants, including Fisher-Price, Volkswagen, and General Motors where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2012. Upon retirement, Butch moved back to his beloved hometown of Renovo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to country music. His family and friends meant a great deal to him, and he went out of his way to help others. He was a member of many clubs in Renovo and the surrounding area and co-founded the Renovo Honor Guard. He held leadership positions with the American Legion before his health precluded him from continuing to do so. When dementia took over, Butch was moved to the Bucktail Medical Center where he resided for the last five years of his life. Butch and his family greatly appreciated the care provided by the dedicated staff at Bucktail Medical Center.

He is survived by his three daughters: Kathy J. Hoffman (Dan) of Franklin, Laura A. Spotts of Williamsport, and Brenda M. Spotts (Ben Stewart) of Hagerstown, Maryland, and two grandchildren: Ashley N. (Joe) Hillian of Williamsport and William D. Hoffman of Franklin. He is also survived by his long-time friend, Bob Probst of North Bend, who regularly visited Butch until the pandemic caused visitation restrictions.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert W. Spotts, his aunt, Katherine Crowe, and his uncles, Ken Morton and Robert Morton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #442 or the Bucktail Medical Center.
