Ditty’s walk off lifts Bucktail over Muncy on Senior Night, 12-11

Farwell- On Wednesday night, Carrie Ditty’s wild pitch gave Montgomery a walk off win over Bucktail. 24 hours later, Ditty redeemed herself by smoking a shot to right field that scored Kendall Wagner to give Bucktail an amazing come-from-behind win over Mid Penn Conference divisional rivals Muncy in walk off fashion by a 12-11 score.

The Lady Bucks survived both an error issue and the bat of Taylor Shannon.

Bucktail committed an uncharacteristic 8 errors and Shannon went 3 for 3 with a home run, double and a pair of runs batted in.

Prior to the game, Matti Mason and Cecelia Shaffer were honored as seniors during the Lady Bucks Senior Day.

In a rematch of Bucktail’s 16-7 win over Lady Indians seen a tighter contest that seen a well played effort from both teams.

Makenna Stone got the Lady Bucks on the board first when she reached on an error and scored on an Eva Sockman sac fly.

Stone scored her second of four runs on the day in the bottom of the third inning. Her double led to her scoring on a Sockman single to give Bucktail a 2-0 lead.

Behind the Shannon bomb to right centerfield, Muncy used a 4-run rally to take a 4-2 lead on Bucktail in the top of fourth inning.

The Lady Bucks responded almost instantly.

Bucktail’s bottom of the order caught fire. Angel Kmetz was struck by a pitch from Muncy pitcher Chevy Bauman. Riley Sallizoni reached on a walk. Both runners advanced on a Rebekah Conway sac bunt.

Kmetz got tug out in a run down, Stone reached on a fielder’s choice and Lola English drew a walk. Stone and Lola English each scored along with Sallizoni on a Kendall Wagner single. Eva Sockman’s single in the following at bat scored Wagner to give Bucktail a 6-4 lead.

Muncy added a lone run in their half of the fifth inning, but the Lady Bucks responded in their half of the inning.

Ditty drew a walk, followed by a hard hit single from Kmetz. Ditty scored on a Stone single and Kmetz crossed the plate on a beautifully place sac fly from English to swell Bucktail’s lead to 8-5.

Both teams scored a run in the sixth. Sockman’s double and a bunt single from senior Matti Mason resulted in Sockman scoring to give the Lady Bucks a 9-6 lead.

Muncy battled back, taking advantage of Bucktail errors to cross 5 runs in their final at bat to build an 11-9 lead.

Bucktail facing defeat, responded again quickly. Stone started things off with a single. English drew another walk and Kendall Wagner’s double scored both English and Stone to tie things up 11-11.

Bauman got Sockman to fly out to left field and Mason to ground out back to her and hitting her bare hand in the process. This allowed Wagner to advance to third base. Ditty’s hit to right field was just out of the reach of Alaynna Buss, allowing Wagner to score the game winner.

Sockman’s 3 hits led Bucktail. Wagner collected 2 hits and knocked in 6 runs. Stone added two hits for Bucktail. Matti Mason, Angel Kmetz and Ditty also added hits.

Ditty struck out 6 Muncy batters in 7 innings of work. Her counterpart Bauman fanned 10 Bucktail batters in seven innings.

Muncy dropped to 9-6 on the season. Bucktail improved to 8-7 on the season and are scheduled to play an odd doubleheader on Monday.

Bucktail opens play against 3A Lewisburg at 2pm before taking on Millville following the first game.
