Obituary
Rose Mary Hill, formerly of Flemington, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, her 97th birthday, at Susque View Home, Lock Haven.
Born January 27, 1925, she was a daughter- and the last living child- of the late Antonio and Joanne Renzo Mancini.
Rose and her family survived the Great Depression and during World War II she wrote letters to her brothers as they served their country, especially her brother Ben who was a POW of the Japanese and survived the Death March of Bataan.
Rose was a 1943 graduate of Lock Haven Immaculate Conception High School. She served on the joint reunion planning committee of Lock Haven High School and Immaculate Conception High School reunions.
Before getting married, Rose worked at Piper Aircraft where she was known as one of the Piper Office Girls.
On December 9, 1950, she married her love, Elmer E. Hill, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.
Rose was employed by St. Agnes Catholic School, working in the cafeteria and later in food services at Lock Haven University. She loved getting to know all of the students at each school.
She was a lifetime, devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Rose was also a member of the Alpine Star Lodge, Sons of Italy Club, and Elks’ Ladies Auxiliary.
Rose was an avid bingo player enjoying local clubs and fire halls to play and loved playing Pokeno with her family. After the 1972 flood, her and Elmer moved to Flemington where she enjoyed watching the animals in her back yard, especially the birds and deer. Being of Italian descent, Rose was always ready to feed her brood with delicious food she loved preparing.
Surviving are her daughters: Joanne (Frank-deceased) Furl of Lock Haven, Mary Ann (Sonny) Bower of Flemington and Theresa (Fred) Jacobs of Flemington; a daughter-in-law, Debra Hill of Mill Hall; ten grandchildren: Kathi Neidrich, Stacie Wensel, Mark Barner, Susanne Shaffer, Christine Woodward, Steve Hill, Bridget Veltri, Justin Bower, Comm. Corey Jacobs, USN and Eric Jacobs; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great- great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, and two sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Hill; four brothers: William, Joseph, Bernard and Fiore; and four sisters: Elizabeth, Hope, Anna and Angeline.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11 A.M. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Michael Wolfe officiating. Friends and family will be received at the church on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service. Her family requests that masks be worn according to the current CDC guidelines.
Private inurnment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.
