George Eugene Kalafut

Obituary

George Eugene Kalafut, 82, of Renovo passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Bucktail Medical Center.

Born March 22, 1939 in Renovo, he was the son of the late George J. and Marjorie Cummings Kalafut.

George was a talented basketball player, playing on both Renovo High School’s 1957 Central League Championship and 1958 District Championship teams before graduating in 1958.

He proudly served in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany from 1962-1965, serving in the 8th Infantry Division, 12th Combat Engineers Battalion.

On July 17, 1965, he married his love, the former Elizabeth Ann Diamond, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

George was employed by Piper Aircraft, ACI and New Columbia Joist Company until his retirement.  In retirement, he worked part-time at the Service Garage where he enjoyed spending time and mingling with co-workers and customers.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In earlier years, George enjoyed hunting.

He cherished the time he spent with others- whether it be going to camp with his son and grandsons; visiting with his special friends, Mark and Kendra; cheering on his grandsons at their sporting events; or simply sharing a witty joke and conversation to make someone smile.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth Kalafut, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Kathleen Kalafut of Hyner; two sisters, Esther “Dolly” (Merrill) Prebble of Renovo and Betty (Alan) Lunger of North Bend; his grandchildren: Alicia McGowan, Jimmy McGowan, Josh Culver, Kylea Culver, Kelsey Brungard, Ethan Kalafut and Quentin Kalafut; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Kalafut.

Services will be held at the convenience of his family.
