CM girls’ soccer edged at ‘Shore, 1-0
JERSEY SHORE, PA – Coming off a 1-0 win over Bald Eagle Area last Saturday, Monday at Jersey Shore the Central Mountain girls’ soccer team was on the other end of a 1-0 contest, edged by the hosts Lady Bulldogs on a successful corner kick.
The Lady Wildcat soccer team had a short ride down Route 220 to meet up with the Lady Bulldogs. In what became a learning experience for all, the home side put the only shot inside the frame with a corner kick. With about twenty minutes into the game the home team was awarded the corner kick. The Lady Bulldog swung the ball in without anyone touching it as it hit the net. That was all that was needed as the Lady Wildcats couldn’t answer with their own, ‘Shore ending up a 1-0 winner.
Lady ‘ Cat coach Ryan Veltri said the contest was about lessons for his team: “In what would be a very interesting game, one with the elements out of the hands of the Lady Wildcat Soccer team, valuable lessons of not losing focus, maintaining their control and not allowing unlucky calls against them effect their play. It was a game were pregame preparations are important to the start of a game. Where not allowing the play of others or decisions made change our philosophy of the game. When you find yourself on your back foot, you’ve got to calm the game down, maintain a bit of possession and maintain organization and discipline in transition, especially during the two phases of the game, ‘when we lose it and when they lose it.’”
With a few near misses and opportunities lost in the second half, the Lady Wildcats played to the last whistle. The coach said, “This one will be a tough one to get over but we must find a way to improve from it in preparation for our next game. We cannot fault the work rate of the team, we will just have to bounce back and use this as a learning experience. Sometimes you just have to be better than that.”
The Lady Wildcats will be back in action Wednesday, hosting Shamokin.
