Obituary
Charles H. “Hump” Smith, Jr., 62, of Lock Haven, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Jersey Shore Hospital.
Born November 4, 1958 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Arlene B. Vance Smith, Sr.
Shortly after his graduation from Lock Haven High School in 1977, Hump began his career at McIntyre Chevrolet, Lock Haven, where he was employed in the parts department until his retirement in 2017 after 40 years of service.
On June 18, 1988, Hump married the love of his life, the former Melissa A. Fry, who survives.
Hump was dedicated to serving his community. He was a lifetime member of the Dunnstown Fire Company, working his way up through many ranks until he was honored to serve as Chief – a title he held for close to 10 years.
In his free time, Hump enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his cousins, Paul and Mike Vance, and his brother-in-law, Dave Munro. He was an avid Penn State Wrestling and Football fan as well as a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to his wife, Melissa, he is survived by his sister, Debra (Dave) Munro of Lock Haven; and six nieces and nephews: Korbin Douty, Lorelei Douty, Vance Munro, Jessica Fry, Ashley Douty and David Munro, Jr.
A Funeral Service with Fireman’s Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the Dunnstown Fire Company, 119 Woodward Ave., Lock Haven, PA 17745 with his brother-in-law, Pastor Dave Munro, officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.
Friends and family will be received at Dunnstown Fire Company for a time of viewing on Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
