District VI Track and Field Championships Underway

ALTOONA – The rain held off as Day One of the District VI Track and Field Championships got underway, kicking off a two-day event packed with competition.

The Central Mountain girls’ team sits in 7th place with 2 points, scored by Grace Keohane in the 1600-meter run. Keohane placed 7th overall with a time of 5:23.48.

All preliminary races were held Wednesday, with several Lady Wildcats advancing to finals on the track. Macia Owens had a standout day, taking 1st in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.19 and also qualifying in the 300-meter hurdles after placing 6th (51.44). Jocelyn Wiseman will also compete in both hurdles finals after placing 2nd in the 100m hurdles (16.56) and 5th in the 300m hurdles (51.42). Sarah Hall qualified as well, placing 7th in the 100m hurdles with a 17.31. Macy Plowman will run in the 200m finals after placing 4th in prelims with a time of 26.72.

All track finals for both AA and AAA classifications will be held Thursday, including all AAA relay events. Field events including javelin, discus, high jump, and long jump will also conclude on Day Two.

On the boys’ side, Central Mountain scored a total of 6 points on Day One sitting at 7th place. Bryce Warren earned 5th place in the triple jump with a distance of 41-02.25, and Isaiah Brinker added to the total by placing 7th at 40-02.25.

In prelims, Sam Wible advanced in two events with strong showings. He placed 3rd in the 400m with a time of 51.39 and also qualified in the 200m after a 4th-place finish in 22.77.

The final day of the District VI meet will determine team titles and individual champions across all events.
