LHU’s Moyer settles for second in 5,000 in brilliant PSAC weekend

SHIPPENSBURG, PA – The Lock Haven University women’s outdoor track & field closed the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in style as the Bald Eagles turned in a number of sensational individual efforts which led to All-Conference honors.

Leading the way Saturday for Lock Haven was Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) and Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim).Overall, Lock Haven finished sixth of 15 in the team standings.

Moyer capped a brilliant three days with a second-place (All-PSAC) finish in the 5,000-meter run. She was second out of 15 with a time of 17:54.77. Friday Moyer ran away from the field on the way to victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and won her second individual PSAC title in as many days. On Thursday, she cruised to victory in the 10,000-meter run. Thursday’s 10K PSAC title and Friday’s individual championship performance in the steeplechase ran Moyer’s career PSAC individual title tally to seven gold medals.

Owens was third in both the 100 and 200-meter dash, earning All-PSAC honors in both events by way of the top-three performance.

Bollinger was fourth in the both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.

Owens was third in the 100-meter dash with a blazing wind-aided time of 12.07 (2.1 wind). She came back and ran 25.69 and placed third in the 200.

Bollinger was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.28. She followed that up with a fourth-place showing in the 400-meter hurdles after running a personal-best 1:06.22.

Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) added an 11th place showing in the triple jump.
