George David Young – Obituary
George David Young, 93, of Lock Haven passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Wynwood House at Salem Hill, Spring Mills.
Born April 7, 1927 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late John W. and Bridget G. (Hurley) Young.
After high school, George served as a United States Merchant Marine from 1945 until 1948. He then served in the United States Army until 1952, earning the rank of Sergeant.
George was a 1960 graduate of Penn State University, earning his degree in Electrical Engineering. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Florida International University in 1981.
George was employed as an Electrical Engineer at Piper Aircraft for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
In 1991, he married the former Nancy M. Dietz with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.
Together with his wife, he owned Overdorf’s Drive-In in Dunnstown for 17 years until selling the business in 2007.
George was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, attending Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time, George enjoyed working with his hands. If something were broken, he was always up for the challenge of fixing it.
In addition to his wife, Nancy Young, he is survived by four children: Kimberly Moore of Mill Hall, Gerald (Stephanie) Dietz, Jr. of Ohio, Robert (Patty Ann) Dietz of Lock Haven and Rick (Patty Jo) Dietz of Lock Haven; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Young in 1988; a brother, John Young; and three sisters: Margaret Zurowski, Catherine Welliver and Marie Clohesy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 6 until 8 P.M. at Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.
