Obituary – Debra Ann Confer Irvin
Debra Ann Confer Irvin, 69, of Beech Creek, passed away June 10, 2025, at Edenbrook North Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born on June 30, 1955, at Lock Haven Hospital and raised in Monument, Debra carried her small-town grit and wild sense of humor with her every day of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Shirley Confer, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms-and maybe a gallon of sweet tea-on the other side. Debra is survived by her brother, Joseph Confer (partner Joyce Shufelt) of Howard; and two nieces, Tera Confer, and Jamie Stearns.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gregg Irvin of Beech Creek -who often referred to her signature drink as “brown sugar water.” To say she loved sweet tea is an understatement. We’re still not sure how many pounds of sugar she used, but only the brave dared to drink it.
She is also survived by three children who inherited her stubborn streak and sense of humor: Jason Confer of Monument (and his many cats), Stacey (Douglas) Shay of Mill Hall and April Estrada (and partner Ed Parks) of Mill Hall. She was also privileged with a stepson, Wayne Martz, whom she enjoyed.
To her five grandchildren, she was simply “Meme” —a title she wore with pride and joy. She adored Amalea Glantz (Ace Peters), Shanin Butler, Aaron Glantz (Kaylie Kelchner), Keifer Estrada and Nick Estrada. Her heart practically exploded with love this past January when she became a great-grandmother to Nikko Joseph Blain Peters, a baby boy she absolutely doted on.
Debra was fiercely independent. When her car once refused to go out of reverse, she simply drove it backwards down the highway from Blanchard to Beech Creek like it was the most natural solution in the world. Obstacles didn’t stand a chance.
She had a soft spot for animals- especially the misfits. One particularly memorable dog, Cindy, had a strong opinion about tires and tried to attack every vehicle leaving the driveway. Debra, ever the creative problem solver, trained her with a pop gun and the flair of a drag race starter. “Ready… GO!” bang!
To know Debra was to have at least one unforgettable story. She lived life on her own terms, loved her people deeply and left this world the way she lived in it- unapologetically herself.
