‘Cats Celebrate Homecoming with 49-6 Win over Milton

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – After suffering a first loss at Jersey Shore last week, Central Mountain was looking for a bounce-back Friday night when Milton visited Malinak Stadium.

Bounce back the Wildcats did, scoring early and often to overpower the winless Black Panthers by a 49-6 score. The game entered the mercy rule towards the end of the third period, allowing coach Jim Renninger to get his jayvees work for a good portion of the second half.

Heroes were plenty for the now 3-1 Wildcats. They included junior quarterback Brett Gerlach who finished 6-of-7 passing for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end/defensive end/fellow junior Tyler Weaver was busy on both sides of the ball. In period one he fielded a shanked punt and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown and finished 7-for-7 with extra points, along with work on a stifling CM defense. Weaver finished the game with 13 points.

Peyton Johnson caught three passes for 79 yards, including a 40 yard catch-and-run touchdown on a pass from Gerlach. Cade McCloskey scored the ‘Cats first touchdown, a 34 yard pass from Gerlach. Nick Long had a 40-yard long reception and Ryan Pentz a 26-yard catch. Pentz added 81 rushing yards on eight carries and Micah Walizer chipped in with 29 yards on five rushes. Both Pentz and Walizer had rushing touchdowns. Kick returner Kaden Falls electrified those in attendance, returning the second half kick-off 84 yards for the score. Even the jayvees chipped in, as the two freshmen on the team, Brady Myers and Connor Foltz, collaborated on a 51 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcat win sets up a midseason showdown at Shamokin next Friday, Oct. 9. The Indians moved to 3-1 with a 41-20 win over Shikellamy.

Other scores Friday night included Jersey Shore, 33, Selinsgrove, 0; Penns Valley, 28, Bellefonte, 14; and Tyrone, 15, Bald Eagle Area, 12.

Friday’s Wildcat game was preceded by the Central Mountain Homecoming ceremony. Lindsey Borges was named homecoming queen and Wildcat lineman, Cyrus McCarl was selected king.
