WINGATE – The “Rapid Fire Readers” from Mill Hall Elementary recently took home the Grand Champion honors at the 20th Annual Elementary Interscholastic Reading Competition held at Bald Eagle Area High School. The competition is sponsored by the Central Intermediate Unit 10. A total of 24 teams participated. Students taking part in the competition are required to have read from a pre-determined list of 38 books leading up to the competition. During the contest, questions are asked from the material contained in these books. Each team consists of 12 students and there are three rounds in the competition.

“It was hard work to get there; however, the Rapid Fire Readers were well prepared.
We covered all of the books, studied hard, and practiced a lot. I couldn’t have asked for better teammates, “ said Cole Cooper, 5th grade captain of the Mill Hall team.

The team was coached by Mill Hall enrichment teacher, Ms. Michelle Marasco. “I am extremely proud of the Rapid Fire Readers. They are an extraordinary group of students to coach. Their love for reading is contagious. They worked together efficiently as a team and proved that hard work, a positive attitude and perseverance pays off” said Marasco.
