Letter to the Editor

Thank you to our community!

Editor:
Thank you, people of Clinton County and friends near and far, for making the 10th annual Flags of Honor event a huge success!

Flags of Honor is a project of the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, but it can’t happen without you. This year you helped show our true colors over Memorial Day weekend with 158 American flags displayed in Triangle Park!

You also have funded three scholarships at Central Mountain High School, which are given in memory of local Rotarians Eleanor Kodish, Dr. Betty Schantz, and Roberta Way.

And, your support was so strong that local nonprofit groups will receive contributions from the project.
We thank our Angel Partners for 2024: Nestlerode Contracting Co., Inc., Schlesinger Communications, Inc., and SWC Realty, and we congratulate Redmond’s Complete Comfort, LLC for sponsoring 28 flags and becoming the Gold Medal Sponsor again this year.

Businesses that supported the project as corporate sponsors were Anchor Realty, Avery Dennison Performance Polymers, Beiters Furniture Mattress Appliance, Century 21 1st Choice Realty, Croda, Inc., Curt’s Smokin’ Ribs, David S. Rockey, DMD, Davis Insurance Agency, Davis Real Estate, Inc., Diversified Asset Planners, Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Eagle Ridge Care, The Express, First National Bank, First Quality, Fox’s Market House Restaurant, Glick Fire Equipment, Haffley Insurance, Inc., Hall & Lindsey Law Offices, Jersey Shore State Bank, Lea Ann S. Plessinger, CPA, LLC, Millbrook Plaza, Murray Motors, R&B Insurance Services, LLC, Redmond’s Complete Comfort, LLC, Reese’s Print Shop, Roberts Miceli, LLP, RTG Solutions, Second Cup Restaurant, Signs and Designs of Mill Hall, Starway Roof Systems, Susquehanna Transit Co., SWC Realty, Syensqo, Up the Crick — Wine & Antiques, Woodlands Bank, Workman Masonry, and WQBR, Bear Country Radio.

Special thanks go to the Scouts in Lock Haven Troop 711, Scoutmaster Robert Sparrow, other troop volunteers, and members of Downtown Rotary’s Community Corps. Placing the flags is a hard task and they made it much easier.

We hope you were able to attend the public program Sunday in the park. The participants were soloist Kimberly Vance; Nikki Litz and Nathaniel Noel of A Company, 337th Engineer Battalion, Pennsylvania National Guard; James L. Franklin Jr.; and these Rotarians: District 7360 Governor Herb Smith, Area Governor Diahann Claghorn, and Carmen Banfill.

We also thank the City of Lock Haven, Downtown Lock Haven, Inc., Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank, Covenant United Methodist Church, The Express, David Deem, John B. Gordon Jr., Weis Market in Lock Haven, Weis Market in Mill Hall, everyone who sponsored a flag, and everyone who was remembered or honored with one.
It is not too early to sponsor a flag for the 2025 event. For an order form or more information, please email us at dlhrotary@gmail.com or contact “Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven” through Facebook.
