Glenn R. Andrews, 97, of Lock Haven died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.

Born May 5, 1918 in Salona he was the son of the late Ralph Andrews and Estella Barner.

On December 25, 1941 he married Sara M. Smeltzer who preceded him in death on July 28, 1997.  A sister, Jessie Sheasley; a son, Thomas Michael; and a daughter, Beverly J. Stein also preceded him in death.

He is survived by a sister, Betty Smith of Franklin, TN; daughters Suzann (Vincent) Tedesco of State College, Gwendolyn (Larry) Welch of Olanta, and Jennifer (John) Holmes of Philadelphia; and a son, Glenn R. Andrews, Jr. of Mobile, AL.  Glenn was grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Glenn served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a trainer of bomber radio operators.

Glenn was a graduate of Mill Hall High School and retired from the A&P Tea Company in 1976 having started bagging groceries and rising to a store manager position.

Glenn was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Lock Haven.

Glenn enjoyed fishing, camping, and hiking.  He was an avid bird watcher and became a state and federal licensed bird bander reporting to Cornell University.  Over a 10 year period he banded 5,000 birds.

In retirement he had a large back yard garden which produced abundant tomatoes and zucchinis among other crops as well as peaches and apples.

He was known for the family heirloom roses, iris, and the many beautiful flowers he grew.

At his request there will be no memorial service.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
