HERSHEY – Kendall Wagner has taken the next step in high school wrestling, as the Central Mountain Lady Wildcats junior captured a third place finish in the PIAA Girls State Wrestling Championships giving her three state place finishes thus far in her career.
Wagner earned the third place finish with a solid 7-1 decision over Southeast Regional runner-up Isabella Priano (31-5) of Central Bucks. Wagner recorded a takedown midway through the first period and later gave up an escape to Priano to make 3-1 after one period.
In the second period the only scoring was an escape by Wagner midway through the period and it was 4-1 heading into the final period. Priano chose neutral for the final period and it was Wagner with the bout clinching takedown with 28 seconds to go and she rode Priano out the rest of the period and came away with an impressive 7-1 win and the Bronze medal.
Wagner finished the season with a 29-8 record and a career mark of 73-24 heading into her senior season next year. Impressive credentials for a four sport standout and doing two of them at the same time, as has deservingly been mentioned many times, she plays tennis in the fall, plays basketball for her Lady Bucks while wrestling and then in the spring is a standout softball player as well for Bucktail.
A more involved wrap up of the girls tournament will follow this afternoon’s championship finals.
