Lady Wildcats Earn Emotional Victory Over Bellwood-Antis
MILL HALL – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcats delivered a hard-fought 56-53 victory over Bellwood-Antis on Wednesday night in an emotional game that celebrated the life of a beloved community member. Entering the contest with a 1-3 record, the Wildcats showed resilience and determination to come out on top.
Before the game, the Central Mountain gymnasium hosted a heartfelt tribute to the late Mike Flanagan, a dedicated community volunteer who recently lost his battle with cancer. Flanagan, who supported countless local programs and was the booster club president and leader for many years. In addition Mike often helped The Record broadcast numerous games and was always willing to lend anyone who needed a helping hand. Mike was honored with a special banner placed near the head table – the very spot where he often sat. The banner was donated by Miles and Marly Kessinger, with Coach Scott Baker and the Lady Wildcats ensuring the ceremony was a fitting tribute. Mikes family was in attendance and placed the banner.
The game itself was a back-and-forth battle. Central Mountain started strong, taking a 12-5 lead in the first quarter, but Bellwood-Antis roared back in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 16-13 to narrow the margin. The third quarter saw both teams trading baskets, but the Lady Wildcats held their ground in a tense final period to secure the win.
Taylor Doyle led the way for Central Mountain with 17 points, while Camdyn Weaver scored 13, and Lena Walker added 11. Ava Doyle, Morgan Davis, Elise McKean, and Macy Plowman contributed key points to round out the Wildcats’ scoring effort.
For Bellwood-Antis, Clapper led all scorers with 17 points, followed closely by Gerwert, who provided a strong offensive presence throughout the game.
The Lady Wildcats, now 2-3 on the season, will aim to carry this momentum into their next game as they host Mifflin County on December 30.
