State power Muncy cruises past Lady Bucks , 48-13

MUNCY- During the 2023-24 season Muncy’s girls basketball program reached the PIAA 2A quarterfinals. That run put the Lady Indians on the state map within the 2A classification. On Monday night they showed just how good they have become by dismantling an outnumbered and outsized Bucktail squad 48-13.

Head coach Suellen Wagner’s Lady Bucks once again suited just six players. The lack of depth has shown as of late against average opponents, let alone against a defending district champion like the Lady Indians.

Muncy opened the game on a 19-3 opening quarter advantage. Bucktail continued to struggle from the offensive end in the second quarter by scoring just 4 points to Muncy’s 12 points.

Bucktail opened the second half down 31-7 and a 13-3 Muncy surge in the third quarter seen Bucktail fall behind 44-10.

The Lady Indians closed out the game with a 4-3 advantage to set the final.

The Lady Bucks failed to have a scorer reach double figures for the first time in six games this season. Kendall Wagner led Bucktail with 7 points. Eva Sockman scored 5 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Matti Mason was 1 of 2 at the charity stripe to score her lone point.

The 1-5 Lady Bucks now dropped to 0-2 in Mid Penn Conference play and will be back at it within the conference on Friday when they are set to host another defending district champion in St. John Neumann (3-2, 1-2). The Lady Knights have also been hit by numbers issues. They have been suiting just six players at the varsity level.
