George Roy Snyder, 86, of Sunbury, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at ManorCare Health Services.

He was born April 12, 1928, in Sunbury, a son of the late George Nathaniel Snyder and Ethel Wynn Musselman.

George was a graduate of Sunbury High School in 1946. He was a lifetime member of Americus Hose Company in Sunbury and a member of United Transportation Union having joined in 1955.

George’s love for trains may have started as he worked for many years as a brakeman for Pennsylvania Railroad and later for Conrail until his retirement in 1987. Over the years he also enjoyed camping at Hyner State Park and some hunting and fishing. He is best remembered for his sense of humor and great storytelling. No one spun stories quite like him and his legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren.

George is survived by his children George Snyder and Karen (Dick) Stahl of Northumberland,PA, Cindy (Carl) Milliron of Osceola Mills, PA, Pam (Buck) Diehl of Vicksburg, PA, and Maggie (Rich) Bogdan of Angola NY. He is also survived by stepchildren Happy English and Dick (Karen) Mazzulla of Farwell, PA, Cindy Kurutz of Sunbury, Sue (Mike) Nelson of South Renovo, PA, Teresa (Ron) Van Kirk of Tucson, AZ, Mike (Jenny) Mazzulla of JacksonvillE, FL, Dave (Nat) Mazzulla of Jasper, OR, and Bud (Erin) Mazzulla of Howard, PA. He was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was also fortunate to have many great caregivers in the past few years for which his family is very appreciative.

Preceding him in death were his wives Dorothy Culp Snyder, Ruth Getz Snyder and his son, Terry Snyder. He was also preceded by his brothers Gerred and Wilson Snyder and his sister Phyllis Snyder Wilson, as well as his grandchildren Greta Lynn English, Paul Nelson and Jessica Mazzulla.

At his request, George will be cremated and buried in Fairview Cemetary in Farwell, PA.
