Obituary – Jerry L. Powers
Jerry L. Powers, 84, of McElhattan, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born October 15, 1940 in Renovo, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Mary Winkleman Powers.
Following graduation from Renovo High School, Jerry enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On September 29, 1964 in Lock Haven, he married the former Darla C. Rupert, who preceded him in death July 23, 2011.
Jerry owned and operated L & J Appliance Service, McElhattan, for over 50 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Avis American Legion and a 13-year member of the Wayne Township Recreation Board, where he held various positions, including First Chair.
Jerry loved spending time outdoors – especially camping, boating and kayaking. He was an avid woodworker and machinist. Of the many creations of his, he was most proud of his steam powered boats he constructed.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Penny (Randy) McCloskey of McElhattan, Paula (Brad) Gentzyel of Loganton and Jeri (Ron) Goodbrod of McElhattan; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and his lifelong best friend and “brother,” Lew (Barb) Steckenfinger.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11 A.M. at Pathway to Christ Church, 514 McElhattan Drive, McElhattan, PA 17748 with Pastor Laura Gilbert officiating.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
