Obituary – Steven Allen Mapstone
On September 20th 2024, we lost a very special soul. Steven Allen Mapstone passed away unexpectedly at his home when his big generous heart gave out.
Steve was born in 1954 to Ronald and Anna Mapstone in Lock Haven PA. . He was their youngest and full of life. They predeceased him with our mother passing away just 2 months ago at 95.
He is survived by his daughter Maria (Chad Hicks) Mapstone of Cape Coral, FL, brother Jeff (Linda) Mapstone of Rochester, NY, and sister Sherry (Ron) Haffley of Lock Haven PA.
He is part of a large family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins that he loved being with. He had 19 nephews and nieces who were a focus of his attention throughout their lives. “Sluggo” was a safe place and he would provide a great opportunity to learn things that parents couldn’t give. He was their favorite.
Steve graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1972. He wasn’t a big guy but tough as nails on the football field. He was on the track team and as his nature wanted to do something different. So pole vault it was. He held the school record for many years.
In 1974, he graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with a degree in Plumbing and HVAC . He always had an inquisitive mind and liked to figure out how things worked.
Steve decided to join the United States Navy in 1976. He thoroughly enjoyed his years in the Navy and gained much experience that would help him in the future. He was so proud to serve his country.
After his discharge, he began a career of over 30 years working for local and regional Plumbing and HVAC contracting companies. During that time, he operated his own Plumbing business for 10 years. Mappy was a hard worker who taught many trades and was ready to help anyone in need.
Steve was an easy going, simple man with kindness and a great sense of humor. He did his work and spent time with his family and friends. His daughter, Maria, was a cornerstone for him over the years. He loved visiting her in Florida and their nightly talks. He loved to hunt in the wilds of PA and upstate NY with his nephews where he was a legend in their eyes. He fished for the big ones off Cape May and brookies in the small streams out over the mountain. He had many friends from his high school days and his years of work. He was a member of the Local Elks Club, the Sons of Italy and the Beech Creek American Legion. Steve Mapstone was an every man’s man and we are going to miss him dearly.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Sons of Italy on Nov. 2 starting at 12:00. The Jersey Shore American Legion Honor Guard will be providing a tribute.
