Obituary – Clifford A. Cannon
Clifford A. Cannon of Niagara Falls, NY, went to be with the Lord on his 86th Birthday on October 14, 2024. Born in Renovo, PA, he was the son of the late Clifford G. and Cleora (Sliker) Cannon.
Clifford was a graduate of Renovo High School in Pennsylvania, and came to the Niagara Falls area at the age of 17. On January 31, 1959, he married Barbara A. (Fetterman) Cannon. Mrs. Cannon predeceased him on April 9, 2013 after 54 years of marriage. He proudly served in the United States Army in Germany, from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He also served over 10 years in the New York Air National Guard Reserves where he refueled helicopters, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Clifford was employed for over 40 years as a Supervisor at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Niagara Falls until his retirement in 1996, where he also enjoyed participating in the plant bowling league. On the side, he partnered with his brother-in-law Robert Desmond, cutting trees to take to the paper mill and delivering groceries for Johnson’s grocery store. On July 29, 2017, he married Carolyn (Johnson) Cannon, who sadly passed away one day after him on October 15, 2024.
Clifford was a man of great faith, and a longtime member of First Assembly of God (The Bridge), where he was a former Board Member and served as a children’s Sunday School Teacher. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling, especially in his home state of Pennsylvania. Clifford also enjoyed playing pool. Above all, he will be remembered most as a faithful, hardworking family man and exceptional father that cherished the time he spent with his family.
Clifford is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Cannon, Kathy (Frank) Matiasz, Christopher Cannon, and Wendy (Thomas) Conheady; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Sara) Cannon, Courtney Cannon, Brian Cannon, Ashley (Tyler) Domes, Victoria (Jake) Fountain, Savannah Matiasz, Zachary (Briana) Cannon, Alexander Conheady, and Lacie Conheady; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Declan, Joceyln, Luca, Lucas and Theodore; his siblings, Connie (Brayton) Maggs, Carlene (late Daniel) Siegel, Carlton ‘Cark’ (Rhonda) Cannon, and Charles ‘Chip’ Cannon, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his first and second wives, he was also predeceased by his brother and dear friend, Cleon (Rebecca ‘Becky’) Cannon, who passed away on October 12, 2024.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 11 AM at The Bridge Assembly of God, 9750 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Interment with Military Honors will be held in North Bend Cemetery, North Bend PA, Monday, October 21 at 12:30 PM. Maxwell Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
