Obituary – Michael K. Flanagan

Michael K. Flanagan, 62, of Lock Haven passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Mike, or Flan, as he was known by friends, was born in Altoona, PA on June 6, 1962 to Robert and Katherine (O’Toole) Flanagan. He went to high school at Lewistown Area High School and graduated in 1980. He then went on to earn a degree in Journalism from Lock Haven University, where he also played football.

Mike worked at the Clinton County Economic Partnership since 1996 and was named President/CEO of the organization in 2008.

He grew to know the Clinton County community as a reporter, working initially at Lock Haven radio station WBPZ and then branching out into print media as a reporter for The Express and then The Record newspapers. He also served as a legislative aide for United States Congressman, the late William Clinger, and remained a close friend to the Congressman after Bill retired from office.

As President and Chief Executive Officer of the Clinton County Economic Partnership, Mike was involved in a wide range of initiatives, especially those that supported economic growth. He served as secretary of the Clinton County Revolving Loan Fund board and as board chairman of the City of Lock Haven’s Commercial Loan Program.

Mike was active for many years in the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club, and the Renovo Community Trade Association.
He fostered professional as well as personal relationships with industry leaders; small business owners; those who oversee our area’s nonprofit organizations; and those in local, state and federal government.

Mike worked tirelessly to help key employers like First Quality continue to grow and provide good-paying jobs; to attract new businesses like Terrapin, to Clinton County; and to provide new opportunities for companies like Croda, Inc. to expand their operations locally.

Mike loved sports, and he thrived being booster club president for the Central Mountain Girls Basketball team. His heart ultimately belonged to this group. He would announce at numerous games and would even travel on the road with them to keep the team statistics. He also loved working the field at Central Mountain High School and Commonwealth-Lock Haven University football games, being part of the “Chain Gang” as he would call it.

Mike is survived by his wife, Laurie (McCahan) Flanagan of Lock Haven, two daughters, Kada R. Stull and Summer G. Flanagan, and a son, Joshua W. Flanagan. He is also survived by three siblings, Suzanne M. Fickes, Robert W. Flanagan Jr, and Christopher J. Flanagan. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Flanagan, his mother Katherine (O’Toole) Flanagan, a sister, Kerry A. Flanagan, brother in law, James Fickes, and a sister in law, Rachelle Flanagan.
