Obituary – Richard E. “Dick” Wert

Richard E. “Dick” Wert, 88, formerly of Lock Haven was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2024 at The Leighton Place, Williamsport.

Born July 16, 1936 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Clarence and Jennie (Miller) Wert.

Dick was a 1956 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On August 17, 1958, he married the former Phyllis A. Geraty with whom he shared 64 years of marriage before her passing in 2022.

Dick was employed at Hammermill Paper Mill for 41 years before his retirement.

He was a member of First Church of Christ, Lock Haven.

Along with his wife, Dick loved camping, especially with Family Campers (FCRV) and Bald Eagle Ridge Runners as well as traveling.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.  More recently, Dick enjoyed meeting with his coffee group at McDonald’s and Burger King.

Surviving are his children, Patti (Rick) DeArment of Allenwood and Sam (Gina) Wert of McElhattan; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Wert of Aliquippa; a sister, Sara Jane Miller of Mill Hall; seven grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Phyllis Wert, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Wert; an infant daughter, Annette Marie Wert; a sister, Mary Glenn; and a grandson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11 AM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745 with Rev. Matt Kinley officiating.  Private interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ through the funeral home.

Dick’s family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to The Leighton Place and UPMC Hospice for their excellent care and love shown towards Dick.
