Obituary – Robert William Brown Sr (Booner)

Robert William Brown Sr (Booner), age 93, of Corning, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.  He was born on July 15, 1931 in Norristown, PA the son of the late Raymond and Gertrude (Stoltz) Brown, Sr.  He married Sylvia Knepley on October 24, 1953. 

Bob graduated from Renovo High School in 1949.  Bob spent 9 years in the US Army Reserves.  Bob was drafted and spent 2 years serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was a lifetime member of the Corning VFW and a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.  He enjoyed traveling with Sylvia and his family to Myrtle Beach and throughout the United States each year including many sight-seeing adventures in Arizona, Tennessee, and Nevada just to name a few.  He retired from Ingersoll Rand following 38 years of service.  In retirement Bob spent many years volunteering for Corning Meals on Wheels and the Corning Community Food Pantry. He also spent countless hours caring for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sylvia, sons, Terry (Darlene) Brown and Greg (Sue) Brown all of Corning, 6 grandchildren, Shannon (Jim), Terry Jr (Heather), Casey, Brandon (Ellen), Stefanie (Jeremy), and Kaylee (Dylan), great grandson, Quintin, great granddaughters, Hannah, Rylee, and Aubrey as well as several nieces and nephews.  Robert was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr and Valeta, brother, Raymond, and sisters, Helen, Donna, and Carol.

Sylvia would like to thank their granddaughter Casey Brown and niece Rachel Hofstetter for their support and care of Bob over the last few months.

Family and friends are invited to attend Bob’s memorial service at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 171 West Pulteney Street, Corning, on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 3:00 pm.  Burial will take place at Rural Home Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
