Obituary – Arlin R. “Sparky” Day
Arlin R. “Sparky” Day passed away August 31, 2024 at the Geisinger Medical Center Danville, at the age of 91.
Arlin was born December 24, 1932, the son of Charles and Charlotte Schenck Day. He graduated from Howard High School in 1950. After a short time working in the Great Lakes, Arlin enlisted in the U. S. Army serving a tour in Germany as a military policeman where he met his first wife. After the Army he gained his machinist certification from Pennsylvania Technical College. He then worked for 28 years as machinist at Piper Aircraft, followed by Cerro Metals, then retiring from the Applied Research Lab at Penn State University. While employed at Piper Aircraft, he served as Vice President of the union for a number of years.
Arlin was a lifetime member of the Lock Haven Elks, VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid bowler in several leagues; shot pool in several leagues and was a member of the Belles Springs Golf course into his early 80’s. He achieved several noteworthy accomplishments in each. He enjoyed having part ownership in the Leaning Chimney camp, which he co-owned with his brothers. The “Days” he spent at camp (even if nobody got any deer) were filled with laughter, good food and comradery.
Arlin was always up for a good game of cards, checking his weekly lottery tickets, working crossword puzzles and sudoku. He enjoyed regular potluck dinners and poker games with his siblings.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela (Norbert) Baier of Spring Mills, Perian Day (Sheila Hagemeyer) of Montoursville; a son, Todd Day of Renovo; five grandchildren: Norb, Bianca, Greta, Zachary and Katie; and three great grandchildren: Wyatt, Charlotte and Jacob. He is also survived by two sisters, Donna Flaig and Judy (James) Gephart; and four brothers: Donald Day, Gordon (Caroline) Day, Larry (Louisa) Day and Gary (Candace) Day.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
Per Arlin’s wishes, there will be no public services. A celebration of life will be held September 29th to include his family and close friends.
