Obituary- Lena May Welsh

Lena May Welsh, 94, of Flemington, expired Sunday, September 1, 2024, at The Gatehouse, Williamsport.  Born at home in Flemington on February 28, 1930, she was the daughter of Bray O. and Edna Gingery Yost.  She lived all of her life in the house in which she was born.

She graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1948.

On May 16, 1950, she married Delbert L. Welsh, Sr. in Oakland, MD.  They returned home to Lock Haven and started their family with their children: Victoria, Delbert, Jr. and Amy.

Lena was previously employed by Sylvania, Widmann’s Warehouse and Lock Haven Hospital in the Medical Records department, where she later spent 21 years as a volunteer.

She very much enjoyed traveling with Del, playing cards and games with her family and friends, reading and watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.  In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling on the Lock Haven Hospital bowling team.

Lena lost her husband, Del, Sr., in September 2007, and her daughter, Vicki Frith, in July 2018.

She is survived by her son, Delbert, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Dunnstown; her daughter, Amy and her husband, Kevin Knarr of Woolrich; and her son-in-law, Gary Frith of Jersey Shore.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Micah Clausen, Christine Gorham (Kori), Holly Kiessling (Mike), Colleen DeFonzo (Jon), Elizabeth Long (Chad), Rachel Reiter (Joe) and Anthony Knarr (LaKeshia).

She is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Killian and Cole Gorham; Matthew Reese and Kaydince Kiessling; Natalie and Vincent DeFonzo; and Jesse and Joseph Long, as well as her nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by her brothers: William, Forrest and Jerome Yost and her sisters: Hazel Waterman Motter, Theressa Welker and Josephine Barnhart.

She was an active lifelong member of United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lock Haven.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10 AM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.  Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 until 8 PM.
