Obituary

Kenneth Raymond Mapes, 93, of Beech Creek passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at UPMC Susquehanna, Lock Haven.

Born March 30, 1929 in Beech Creek, he was the son of the late Raymond Quay and Florence E. Peters Mapes. After graduating from Lock Haven High School, Ken served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a long-time employee of Piper Aircraft, working there until its closure.  He then worked for Beech Creek Township until his retirement. Ken loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed farming in his retirement years.  He also enjoyed racing and was the true definition of a family man.

Surviving are his children, Sandra Kneedler and Wayne (Susan) Mapes, all residing in Beech Creek; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Relda J. Miller Mapes in 2016; his son, Robert Q. Mapes in 2007; one brother; and three sisters.

A private service will be held at the funeral home.
