Ditty and English reach milestones despite walk off road loss

MONTGOMERY- Bucktail reminded Montgomery just who was the two-time defending district champions on Wednesday afternoon at Montgomery.

The current District IV 1A’s top ranked Lady Red Raiders would need a walk off wild pitch to survive Bucktail’s upset bid.

Bucktail used lone runs in the top of the first and another run in the top of the sixth inning to build a 2-0 lead.

Bucktail pitcher Carrie Ditty kept a strong Montgomery offense in check. Ditty pitched a strong seven innings and held the slim Bucktail lead until Montgomery’s final at bat.

Along the way the freshman hurler collected her 100th strike out of the season.

Bucktail milestones kept rolling in the top of the sixth inning when Lola English scored her 100th career run to give Bucktail a 2-0 lead.

The loss puts Bucktail at 7-7 on the season, but it was a huge turnaround from the Lady Bucks’ 17-7 loss to Montgomery in Farwell back on April 1. The narrow loss is the Lady Bucks’ second one-run loss to one of District IV 1A’s top two teams in the current standings.

Bucktail had four hits on the day, led by a double from Lola English. Ditty, Matti Mason and Kendall Wagner also collected hits in the loss.

Bucktail will next meet Muncy on Thursday in Farwell for Senior Night.
