Richard D. “Dick” Schenck, 74, of Haneyville passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 surrounded by family at his home.
Born June 27, 1947 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Richard H. and Rose J. (Kalafut) Schenck.
After graduating high school, Dick joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served for 20 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1986.
Using his education from both the military and trade school, Dick became a general contractor, focusing on building homes.
Dick was a member of both Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and National Rifle Association (NRA).
He enjoyed the outdoors- whether it be going for Jeep rides in the woods, hunting, target shooting, boating, watching the vast array of wildlife at his home – especially the bears or taking motorcycle and ATV rides with his daughter, Kim.
Dick also loved photography and his dogs, including his current dog, Bowzer. Recently he began doing woodworking projects with his family.
Surviving are his daughters, Kimberly A. Schenck of Haneyville and Amy J. Canvy of Lebanon and two grandchildren: Dominic and Cooper Canvy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne E. Schenck on June 21, 2000; his second wife, Debra S. Schenck on June 11, 2014; and his brother, Thomas “Lee” Schenck on May 6, 2021.
A Military Honor Guard Service memorializing the life of Dick will be announced in the coming days.
