Helen E. Rhymestine – Obituary

ObitArtHelen E. Rhymestine, age 88, of 97 Hockers Lane, Cammal, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at her residence.

Born in Lock Haven on January 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Lola Conser Moore of Flemington.

She was a graduate of Lock Haven high School in 1944.

She was a life member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Lock Haven.

During her senior year in high school, she worked at the local County Courthouse dispensing gas rationing stamps.

In February 1944, war-time, she was released by the school district to accept a full time position at Piper Aircraft Corporation, Lock Haven, in the Office of Production, Planning, and Control. She returned to school for Commencement Exercises in June.

Helen graduated from Beebe Hospital School of Nursing, Lewes, Delaware, and was a nurse and supervisor at the former Lock Haven Hospital on Susquehanna Avenue, Lock Haven.
On June 25, 1966 she married George R. Rhymestine who preceded her in death on July 31, 2009.

Helen was a secretary for the Keystone Central School District Project Follow Through Program until it was abolished in 1982.

At that time she and her husband took early retirement, spending their winters in their home in Florida.

She was a member of the Senior Circle at the Lock Haven Hospital.

She enjoyed swimming, her paddle boat, and playing cards.

Surviving is a son, Roger of Mill Hall; a daughter; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; numerous cousins; a step-son, Thomas; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.

A step-son, George D. Rhymestine, preceded her in death on October 7, 2011.

A graveside service will be held at Linnwood Cemetery, McElhattan, on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tanya Heatwole of Covenant United Methodist Church officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High Street, Flemington.
