Bellefonte Shuts Out CM, 6-0
By Tom Elling
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA-Bellefonte didn’t waste any time showing Central Mountain that they deserved their #5 Maxpreps State ranking jumping off to a 3-run first inning.
The big blow was a three-run shot over the left-center fence by Lexi Rogers. Scoring ahead of her were Lily Gardner (aboard via a walk) and Tori Reichert (single). That was really all the runs the Lady Raiders would need as Rogers was also masterful on th mound, shutting out the Lady Cat bats scattering 5 hits; while striking out ten. It was the 8th shutout for the Raider team, moving their record to 12-1.
Central Mountain (now 10-3) had two doubles among their five hits (one by Caitlyn Watson; the other by Riley Houser), but they could not string any of the hits together. Kudos to Rogers as she captured her 12th win against just one loss. That loss was a 1-0 verdict to BEA back in late March and a rematch is looming on the District 6 deadline date for seeding (May 17th).
Allison Lininger (4-2) took the loss, giving up five of the Raider’s six runs in her two innings of work. She struck out two and issued two free passes. Coming on in relief was Alyssa Fisher whose off-speed and curve balls pretty much quieted the Raiders. This was her initial mound appearance and will probably see more action as the layoffs near. She gave up just one run in the 4th with catcher Maddie Tice drilling a two-out single plating Gardner who led off the inning with a walk. Fisher struck out three and walked two.
In addition to the two doubles, Central Mountain also had base hits by Lininger, Maggie Saar and Kelsey Burrows.
Bellefonte got multiple hits from Tori Reichert (2 for 3), Lexi Roberts (2 for 4 with 4 RBI) and Hanna Lauck (2 for 4 with an RBI).
The Wildcats have five games over the next several days. They travel to Midd-West tomorrow then head to Shamokin on Saturday. They will complete a suspended game (Cm ahead 9-2 in the bottom of the 3rd) before playing the second regularly-scheduled game.
Bellefonte (12-1) hosts Tyrone (2-4) on Friday..
