Wildcats down ‘Dogs, 7-1
MILL HALL, PA – Sophomore starter Chase Brush gave the Central Mountain baseball team six solid innings on Tuesday as the Wildcats won their tenth in a row, a 7-1 victory over Jersey Shore.
The game was a home contest for the Bulldogs, postponed from Monday at Jersey Shore because of field conditions. The Wildcats moved to 11-3 overall, ‘Shore dropping to 4-9 with the loss.
For the second time in the two meetings between the two rivals, Wildcat pitching was outstanding. On April 19, CM downed ‘Shore 14-1 as Aidan Major and Cru Stover combined on a 2-hitter. On Tuesday it was Brush and reliever Ashton Probst who combined on a 2-hitter.
Brush gave up an un-earned run in the second inning but allowed only two singles in his six innings of work, striking out 10 while walking four. Probst pitched a hitless, scoreless seventh to end the game. Coach Kramer said Brush “is doing really well…he’s deceiving; his fast ball runs and his breaking ball holds the batter at bay.”
Coach Kramer expressed concern about his offense, held to six hits by four Bulldog pitchers, stating his team left too many third strikes go by. Wildcat catcher Cy Probst had another solid game. In addition to throwing out the only ‘Shore player who attempted to steal, he had two of the Wildcat hits, including a sixth inning , 2-out single to highlight a four run inning which opened up a 7-1 Wildcat lead.
Other Central Mountain hits came from Stover, a 2-out, 2RBI double in the first, and singles from Noah Grenninger, Tanner Swinehart and Levi Schlesinger. Kaden Falls drove in a run on a ground-out and Major hit a sacrifice fly in the 4-run sixth, Falls also driving in a run in that inning when hit by a pitch.
Sophomore Tyler Bauder gave Jersey Shore five good innings of work on the mound, giving up three hits and three runs, two of them earned, while striking out 6 and walking 3.
‘Shore hits came from Owen Anderson and Connor Griffin.
Central Mountain returns to Mill Hall Community Park on Wednesday for a Heartland Conference showdown with Shikellamyi. The Braves are 9-2 in the conference, 10-3 overall. Central Mountain is also 9-2 in league play. Game time Wednesday is 4:30 p.m. It will be streamed on therecord-online. The Wildcats and the Braves are also scheduled to play in Sunbury on Friday.
