Lady ‘Cats Battle BEA to the Wire for 3-2 Win

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – When Central Mountain and Bald Eagle Area meet on the volleyball court, there is much on the Lin in this backyard rivalry. Back on Dept. 26 when the Lady ‘Cats visited Wingate, the Lady Eagles sent CM home with a 3-0 loss.

Today the Lady Wildcats wanted nothing more than to return the favor to BEA, but they had to dig deep and take the Lady Eagles to the wire for a 3-2 tie-breaker win.

It was an exciting afternoon of intense volleyball entertainment for those fortunate to witness the games.

Central Mountain led off with a 25-16 win in the first game, then BEA responded in kind for a 25-19 victory in game 2. Then the pendulum swung back for the Lady ‘Cats in the Thord game for a 25-20 victory.

Game 4 was action packed and intense on both sides of the net with the scoreboard becoming a teeter-totter with each team taking turns at a brief one point lead, then the other team matching pace right to the end with CM outlasting BEA, 26-24 setting up the tie-breaker Game 5 finish.

The final set was just as close and even more intense as Central Mountain had the opportunity to close early but BEA battled back to put pressure on their hosts. Central Mountain pulled out the win with a final block from Kyleigh McDermitt for the 15-13 finish and a 3-2 win for Central Mountain.

There were contributions aplenty from the Lady ‘Cat roster. Leading the way were: Loni Duck 19 kills, 12 assists and 7 digs; McKenzie Hanna 3 aces, 5 kills, 7 assists and 13 digs; Emily Bartlett 1 ace, 2 assists and 23 digs; Ali Lucas 4 kills, 2 blocks and 5 digs; Evie Rembold 1 ace, 7 kills, 1 block and 3 digs; Kyleigh McDermitt 10 kills and 2 blocks; Mallory Eck 1 kill, 1 assist and 6 digs; Reese Doyle 2 kills and 3 digs with Abby Brinker recording 5 digs on the day.

The win takes Central Mountain to 9-3 on the season with the Lady Wildcats next traveling to Penns Valley on Monday, Oct. 12.
