Selinsgrove Sweeps Doubleheader Against Central Mountain
MILL HALL – The Central Mountain boys tennis team hosted Selinsgrove Area High School on Friday in a makeup doubleheader from an April 2 rainout. The Wildcats battled hard but ultimately fell in both matches by identical 3-2 scores.
In the first match, Joey McCluskey fell in a tough battle at No. 1 singles, 6-7, 2-6, while Tim Brinker dropped his match at No. 2 singles, 0-6, 6-3, 2-6. Wesley Cowart earned a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. In doubles, Braden Spedding and Mitch Borges lost at No. 1 doubles, 1-6, 0-6. However, Ben Brinker and Owen Stringfellow secured a win at No. 2 doubles after dropping the first set 2-6 and winning by forfeit.
The Wildcats rebounded strongly to start the second match. McCluskey picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over McAlister Defazio at No. 1 singles, and Cowart followed with another win at No. 2 singles, defeating Ben Rowan 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Central Mountain forfeited the No. 3 singles match to Aidan Corman.
In doubles action, Brayden Spedding and Mitchell Borges fell 1-6, 0-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Ben Brinker and Owen Stringfellow lost a close three-setter at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 2-6, 2-6.
