Wildcats Compete at AAA District 6 Singles Tournament

ALTOONA-The Central Mountain boys tennis team took part in the AAA District 6 Singles Tournament Tuesday, facing off against some of the region’s top talent in postseason play.

Junior Tim Brinker opened his tournament run with a strong showing against Williamsport’s No. 1 player, Joseph Hillman. Brinker battled through a competitive first set, coming out on top 6-4, and carried that momentum into the second with a dominant 6-1 win to advance to the next round.

In his second match, Brinker faced Altoona’s No. 2 seed, Luke Mitchell. Mitchell came out strong, jumping to a 3-0 lead in the first set. Brinker managed to take one game, but Mitchell closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win to advance. Despite the loss, Brinker earned praise for his effort. “Tim should hold his head up high. He played well today versus tough competition,” said the Central Mountain Boys Head Tennis Coach Jeff Brinker.

Joey McCluskey also represented the Wildcats in singles play. He faced Hollidaysburg’s 4th-seeded Garett Bouchard in the opening round. McCluskey stayed competitive early, trading games in the first set before Bouchard pulled away for a 6-2 win. Bouchard kept control in the second set, securing a 6-0 win to end McCluskey’s tournament run.
