Wildcats Take Second at Home Quad Meet
MILL HALL – The Central Mountain boys tennis team earned a second-place finish Thursday at their annual home quad meet, going 2-1 on the day behind strong singles play.
The Wildcats opened the event with a tough 5-0 loss to Altoona but bounced back with victories over Mifflin County and East Juniata to secure six total points and the runner-up spot.
Match 1 – Altoona 5, Central Mountain 0
Altoona swept both singles and doubles despite competitive efforts from the Wildcats. Joey McCluskey, Tim Brinker, and Wesley Cowart each fell in straight sets in singles, while the doubles teams of Brayden Spedding/Mitchell Borges and Ben Brinker/Owen Stringfellow also dropped their matches.
Match 2 – Central Mountain 3, Mifflin County 2
Central Mountain rebounded well in their second match. McCluskey, Brinker, and Cowart each picked up solid singles victories to give the Wildcats the edge. The top doubles team of Spedding and Borges added a dramatic win in a tiebreaker, 7-6, 2-6, 10-4. The second doubles team fell in straight sets.
Match 3 – Central Mountain 3, East Juniata 2
The Wildcats once again dominated in singles play, with McCluskey winning by default, Brinker cruising 6-1, 6-2, and Cowart blanking his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Both doubles teams came up short, but the singles sweep was enough to seal the win.
