Closing time: LHU Women’s Basketball finishes strong to down Shepherd on the road
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team outscored Shepherd by 20 points in the final period to soar to a 74-54 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory on the road on Wednesday night (Jan. 15).
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC. The Haven has been impressive away from home this season and is now 5-2 on the road.
Shepherd falls to 4-13 on the season and 1-10 in conference play.
Alana Robinson led the Bald Eagles with a dominant all-around performance and finished with 21 points (7-of-10), five rebounds, three steals and a block.
Kiera Baughman shot a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line on her way to 19 points.
Rhlyn Rouse and Jenadia Jordan rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures with 11 points each. Madeline Evans pulled in a game-high eight rebounds.
Lock Haven jumped out to a 21-13 after the first quarter, however, Shepherd held the Bald Eagles to seven points in the second period to carry a 30-28 lead into the break.
Lock Haven regrouped at halftime and came out on top, 17-15, in the third quarter to knot the game at 45-45 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Haven saved its best for last, especially on the defensive end, where they held the Rams to 25 percent shooting and just nine points. The Bald Eagles outscored Shepherd 29-9 in crunch time on their way to a convincing 20-point victory.
The Haven knocked down 15-of-16 shots from the line during the monster run and finished with a season-high 29 points at the charity stripe.
Lock Haven forced a game-high 19 turnovers, while holding the Rams to under 40 percent from the field.

The Bald Eagles remain on the road and will visit Mansfield at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 1 p.m. for a PSAC East contest.
