Obituary -James Arthur VanHorn

James Arthur VanHorn, 84, of Lock Haven, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024 at his home.

Born May 3, 1940 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Howard VanHorn and Gladys Emert VanHorn.

Jim was a 1958 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On June 17, 1961 at the Flemington United Methodist Church, he married the former Katy Sanky Mapstone, who survives.

Jim was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church and a social member of the Lock Haven Son’s of Italy.

He played on the 1955 Piper Apaches, which started his lifelong love of baseball. He coached both of his son’s baseball teams and organized his daughter’s softball team. He was an avid Penn State Football fan and would faithfully rub the head of his lucky Nittany Lion gnome before every game. He was the master of The Price Is Right, loved a good “game night” and enjoyed playing the lottery and going on casino trips.

In addition to his wife, Katy, he is survived by two sons, James J. (Amy Derr) VanHorn of Elizabethtown and David (Shelia Butler) VanHorn of Lock Haven; a daughter, Michelle VanHorn Brown of Virginia; a brother, Larry VanHorn; three sisters: Alice Young, Barb Waterman and Bonnie Kinley; eight grandchildren: Jacob (Katie) Brown, Heather Brown, Jessica (Connor) Neely, Michael (Cassie) VanHorn, Stephanie VanHorn, Erin (Blake) Cuomo, Jacob VanHorn and Robert VanHorn; and three great-grandchildren: Holden Neely, Hadley Neely and Genevieve VanHorn.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11 A.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High Street, Flemington, PA 17745 with Pastor Jack Hocker officiating.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home for a time of viewing on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.

Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Clinton County SPCA.
