Joseph Allen Bitner – Obituary

Joseph Allen Bitner, 91, of Lock Haven, passed away June 8, 2015 at Susque View Home.

Born on April 6, 1924 in Beech Creek, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mae Scantlin Bitner.

Joseph served in the Navy during World War II.

He was married to the former Vivan Elizabeth “Betty” Miller who preceded him in death in 2008.

Joseph was employed by Hammermill Paper Company until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of the American Legion, Lock Haven.

Joseph was an avid sports fan.  He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his tomatoes with his neighbors.

Surviving are three sons: Daniel (Carrie) Bitner, Dennis (Holly) Bitner of Seneca, and Joseph (Claudia Hunold) Bitner of Lock Haven; a daughter-in-law Brenda Bitner; a brother, John Bitner of Lock Haven; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bitner.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington.

Private burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
